Vudu, Walmart’s streaming video service, has now arrived for the fourth-generation Apple TV with purchasing limitations. The new app lets you watch the movies and TV shows you’ve purchased or added to your Vudu library via its UltraViolet technology that allows you to save a digital version of your DVDs and Blu-ray discs. However, the limitation is the inability to rent or buy videos directly from the Vudu Apple TV app. The app for Apple TV is straightforward and easy to use. The interface includes a few sections including My Vudu (your library), Search, Settings, and Movies on US (Vudu’s free collection of over 4,000 ad-supported titles). While the Movies on Us feature doesn’t offer the latest and greatest blockbusters, free is always a good thing.
The UltraViolet technology of Vudu is a compelling feature for trying out the service, too. If you still have a DVD and Blu-ray collection you can scan the UPS code with the Vudu app on your smartphone and it adds the title to your library. To see how it works just check out the following video.
It’s also good for collectors who like to have physical copies of their entertainment. For example, if you buy a season of Game of Thrones on Blu-ray at Walmart, you get a code for the digital copy as well. It takes away the hassle of having to rip and convert your discs and putting them on a home server or NAS. Plus, you can rent or purchase streaming content, too. While you can’t do it directly from the Apple TV app, you can do it from another device, and those movies or TV shows will be waiting for you in your Vudu library. Comment Name * Email *
